Closing out Lyric Theatre's 2015 season at the Civic Center is this brand new adaptation of Billy Elliot, the musical about a young boy who's just mad about ballet! Based on the Stephen Daldry directed movie from 2000, this show caused a sensation with both its West End and Broadway productions, winning five Olivier Awards and ten Tonys! With an original score by the legendary Elton John, Billy Elliot the Musical is a big-hearted treat that is quickly becoming a stage classic.
Eleven-year old Billy lives in a deprived town in North East England, a place where a man's role includes boxing, mining, drinking beer and certainly not something like ballet dancing. But poor Billy can't help but feel drawn to the art form when he happens to watch a ballet class after one of his boxing lessons.
Brought up by a single father and older brother without a mother's touch, Billy risks alienating not only his family but the entire community with his new found passion. With steely determination he attempts to prove everyone wrong and dance his way to the very top of the ballet world.
